Hansen & Partners is an intellectual property consultancy firm based in the Middle East. Our particular focus is Syria, although our expertise and experience is region wide.

Structure of the firm

The firm’s services are provided through Hansen & Partners Limited, incorporated in Cyprus.

The firm’s office in Damascus, Syria is operated by Hansen & Partners, a Syrian company. Hansen & Partners is registered as an intellectual property agent with the Syrian Ministry of Economy and Trade.

The firm is also a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and Marques.

Partners of the firm

Peter Hansen

Peter is the managing partner of the firm. He is an Australian lawyer of more than 20 years experience.

Peter gained his first experience in intellectual property in 1989 at the Australian Patents and Trade Marks Office (now IP Australia). He was subsequently a partner of the top tier Sydney law firm, Freehills. Peter has been in the Middle East since 2001.

Whilst based in Dubai, UAE, Peter worked on and managed a wide range of IP cases throughout the Middle East. His experience working in the United Arab Emirates resulted in a book for Oxford University Press, Intellectual Property Law and Practice of the United Arab Emirates (2009).

Although Peter has specialized in intellectual property disputes, litigation and the enforcement of IP, he also has extensive experience in portfolio management and commercial transactions involving IP, as well as the management of global IP issues. Peter was referred to as a “first rate IP adviser” in MIP’s IP Handbook 2009.

His degrees and admissions include:

Hala Zaghour

Hala has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Damascus. She has worked for the Syria European Business Centre in Damascus, as well as in other EU projects in Syria. In Dubai she worked for several years with a major print media organization.

Hala is responsible for the firm’s relationships with Syrian government authorities, as well as the management of the firm’s Damascus office.
