Patent law

The current Syrian law governing patents is decree no. 47 of 1946 (as amended in 1980).

However, a new law has been drafted and is presently under study. The new law will overhaul the patents system in Syria, bringing it in line with international standards, as well as deal with the protection of integrated circuits and undisclosed information.

Trademark law

The trademark law presently in force in Syria is contained law no. 8 of 2007 (as amended). It is supported by implementing regulations also issued in 2007.

Geographical indications law

The law relating to geographical indications presently in force in Syria is contained law no. 8 of 2007 (as later amended). It is supported by implementing regulations also issued in 2007.

Industrial designs law

The industrial designs law presently in force in Syria is contained law no. 8 of 2007 (as later amended). It is supported by implementing regulations also issued in 2007.

Copyright law

Syria’s current copyright law is law no. 12 of 2001. Implementing regulations were issued in the same year and later amended.

Consumer protection law

Syria issued a consumer protection law in March 2008 – law no. 2 of 2008.
